Speaker Bio
Dr. Li is an experienced weed scientist, who has completed his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in weed science. He has many years of experience in integrated weed management, herbicide resistance and herbicide physiology in both academic and industry. He has published eight publications in peer-review scientific journals. During his master’s study, he was the first person who identified herbicide-resistant weeds in wild blueberry fields in NS. Hexazinone-resistant red sorrel was caused by Phe255 to Val in the psbA gene. During his Ph.D. study, he evaluated the different tankmixes of halosulfuron for dry bean producers in Ontario and explored the absorption, translocation, and metabolism of halosulfuron in white beans compared to adzuki beans by using 14C-halosulfuron. Driven by his knowledge and experiences in weed science, he takes pride in providing the best weed management methods for different crop production.

Dr. Li is currently a weed scientist in the cereal agronomy program at the University of Alberta. His research focuses on integrated weed management, which would contribute to sustainable agricultural practices. This is not limited to herbicide control but also involves weed ecology, weed biology, invasive weed control, culture control, mechanical control, herbicide physiology, and herbicide resistance. His goal is to develop a weed management program at the University of Alberta to help farmers solve weed problems in Alberta.
