It’s Back…, Managing Stripe Rust on the Prairies
Stripe rust appears sporadically across the prairies depending on inoculum build up in southern and western regions of the USA each year. The inoculum is transported on air currents from points south that vary in frequency and arrival date. Managing this disease requires an understanding of the resistance inherent in the varieties grown, and under high-risk conditions, application of fungicide. Early and diligent scouting plays an important role in management.
