Description
The climate of the Australian wheat belt is extremely variable compared to all other grain growing regions of the world. Growing season rainfall varies sevenfold, and temperatures during sensitive stages of crop growth vary wildly from year to year. Consequently, Australian farmers have got very good at managing climate extremes – particularly drought and heat stress. This presentation will examine some of the adaptations that Australian grain growers have made to drought and heat in recent years, and discuss their applicability to Alberta.
