Description
Flea beetles remain a chronic and costly threat to Canadian canola, with nearly all crops relying on neonicotinoid seed treatments. However, widespread use of neonicotinoids and potential increased reliance on pyrethroid foliar sprays raise serious concerns about future insecticide resistance. Across 3 years, we monitored flea beetle susceptibility to existing insecticide seed treatments and foliar applied active ingredients. We are also created genomic resources which will enable identification of novel target genes for developing next-generation management strategies like RNA interference (RNAi). The findings will provide timely data and cutting-edge resources to enable effective, long-term control of this major pest.
