This presentation will cover four topics: 1) a brief overview of the most important pest wireworm species on the Prairies; 2) new insecticides for their management in cereals and potatoes; 3) new monitoring tools for the click beetle stage; 4) new identification tools for distinguishing pest from non-pest species. The main focus will be on work done in BC and Alberta to determine the efficacy of different insecticides for wireworm management, with discussion on what makes the new compounds effective, and why sometimes even effective compounds don’t work well.
