Description
The Prairie Pest Monitoring Network conducts annual monitoring and research to estimate the distribution and density of the primary pests of field crops in western Canada and to better understand the biology and population dynamics of insect pests. Pests monitored by the PPMN include grasshoppers, wheat midge, bertha armyworm, and cabbage seedpod weevil. This presentation will discuss recent trends and changes in the distribution and abundance of important pests of cereals, oilseeds and pulses in the prairie region over the last 5-10 years and ongoing research to better understand the underlying factors affecting populations of these species.
